Hail Damage?

Has anyone been to the garden today?  I know that some parts of Des Moines got some pretty bad hail last night.  I was just curious if the garden had been affected.

Untouched Plots

I've noticed a couple of plots at the garden that appear to still be completely untouched.  Has anyone tried to contact these plot holders?  If they aren't interested in using their plot, we ought to…Continue

Our plot took a beating as well. Anything with big leaves (lettuce, chard, kale, broccoli, and green beans) has holes punched right through their leaves.  I'm also hopeful that it will bounce back soon.

I went to the garden yesterday.  My chard was hit hard, my spinach was pummeled, and my lettuce was destroyed.  :(  Several onions and tomato branches were snapped in half;  we'll see how it looks in a week!

Kathy, I believe that there is a tiller in the north side of the garden shed.  I've never used it, but maybe someone that has some experience with it will offer their assistance. Happy growing! -Stacia

I'd also love to discuss adding some more community growing areas.  There has been some discussion about a berry patch and/or vine patch for melons and squashes.

We should probably spend some time cleaning/organizing the tool shed. It would also be good to get some kind of light it there.  I know the shed doesn't have power, but some kind of battery powered touch lamp, or at least a flashlight…

Thanks for your input Craig!  I love the idea of the herb spiral, but I'll admit the cost could be prohibitive.  It's probably a good idea to think it over for this season, and decide what we'd like to do this…

This is 1 of 4 organized workdays:( According to the garden contract plot holders have agreed to help at at least one of these work days. ) The Spring Clean Up Day will focus on preparing the garden for the 2011 growing season.  Any of your ideas are welcome and encouraged.  Suggestions will be posted in the Garden Shed prior to the start of the work day.See More

I worked for a landscaping business for 3 years, and know a little bit about projects like the one being discussed here. The best time for such an endeavor would be in the fall, when the ground has dried out, otherwise you're going to get a…

So did they call them "marbles" because they were made of marble?  Really neat find!

Hey folks, it's cold out there!  Sorry to be such wimps, but I think Greg and I are gonna back out of this one.  Hopefully things warm up soon, and we can do this again in the next couple of weeks.

Greg and I would like to come.  My vote would be for Sunday afternoon, just cuz it will be starting to get cold by 5:00.  Maybe around 3:00?   And I agree it's too early for a picnic.  Just snacks would be fine with me.
