Greg Zink replied to Michelle Fortune's discussion 'Is the Downtown Garden going all Organic'

First day of Spring!

That's pretty much all I had to say. :)  It's March 21st, so Spring is officially here, and I am excited.  I can't wait to start working in the garden.  Stacia and I have schemed and planned all winter long, a couple of weeks ago we got to start some broccoli seedlings inside, and in a few more weeks we can move them outside.  Last year was such an unexpected success for us after years of fruitless patio gardening that I am eager to do even better this year.  All that's left is the hard part...…See More

Greg I have read up on this and they are good in your compost and on the garden as long as you dont use the "extra robusto grounds," Thats a joke. anyway adding more nitrogen to the garden right now is a good thing. I talked to Jill from…

Greg Zink replied to Peter Michael Sherinian's discussion 'POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEMS AT THE GARDEN'
For some reason I thought that helping with the common areas was recommended rather than required in the agreement, but I didn't have mine handy to double-check. My bad. So it's probably not okay for people to flat out not help with the…

Greg Zink replied to Peter Michael Sherinian's discussion 'POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEMS AT THE GARDEN'
Problem 1 - I don't think this is happening Problem 2 - This is the garden coordinator's job to keep up with, giving warnings and redistributing serially abandoned plots. This should be handled between the coordinator and the individual; I…

Starbucks free coffee grounds

This may be old news to everyone else, but I first learned about it yesterday and thought it was kinda cool.Starbucks has a program called Grounds for your Garden, where they have 5 lb bags of used coffee grounds freely available for people to use in their gardens.  At the 60th & Mills Civic Pkwy location, they were in a metal bin just below the pickup counter.  I'm no expert in these things, but according to the package, coffee helps add nitrogen to the soil, which plants like.  However, a…See More
