The web address changed to www.gardendowntowndsm.com instead of www.gardendowntowndsm.ning.com. You try to please all people? :P I am not familiar with that approach. "Although it took several months of thinking - your last message is prompting me…

Hi Donna, (and all others) Actually - as of this moment I haven't done anything yet. Mostly because it has been a touchy subject and in my efforts to please all people, I believe we have lost some of the utility that the site was providing. ( Also…

Drew ... you went ahead a paid the fee, didn't you? I've been coming back here thinking the place would go away but it hasn't. And today I noticed the web address change.

Whats the scoop on yet untouch plots Christine? Can we get another status update :) I think we counted about 4 or 5 the other evening when we were out there - do you need any help getting a hold of people?

Hey Peter, We'll plan to be at the garden and I'll be calling to invite the people who I have contact Info for :) See ya sunday - It will probably be pretty wet!!

I think I figured it out! :D Have to select the Downtown Des Moines Community + Others link at the top of post or just the Others link to see post made from members and not just the Admin.

Mailchimp and other email marketing software systems are great tools. My only caution is that you would likely find aversion to using it from future coordinators. In general people seem to be most comfortable with just a regular email. The only solu…

I am sure everyone knows I am not the end all be all of community garden knowledge ... We, at Franklin, have setup accounts and whomever becomes Coordinator(s) next year will take them over. I, personally, would think the Coordinator for the garden…

I'd rather not start charging gardeners for a pay site when there's a totally free alternative that, as far as I can tell, offers all the benefits ning does. It looks like migrating to facebook is our best bet.
May 8
Well, the fact that ning is now going to start charging is unfortunate. I think we should do the facebook sight, unless someone is welling to pay or our ning sight, or we could charge each gardner $6.00 a year to cover the ning pro sight.
May 8
I think that the facebook idea is a great choice.
May 7
Wow! So free isn't even a choice anymore? Awesome. Social Sites, user based content. Gotta love it.

Here's a general update on pricing for anyone who might have an interest in this subject... If the group is going to even be able to continue to use this service at all we'll have more to discuss... http://about.ning.com/announcement/ http://www.s

Hi Drew, I am back from my vacation. In regards to this ? I think the ning site name is ok, and I dont think you should have to pay for the change in the site out of your own pocket. I also dont think we need to have others pay. If we need to we can…

Heck yeah! I'd love to go for a walk with you guys. I really want more share more ideas with the Downtown Garden and the Franklin Garden, I am also attempting to do this with Neighborhood Associations. I am all over this community garden business, plants, and the possibilities. I would love a plot downtown, probably because of your attitude and enthusiasm! But I am afraid a 10 min drive is just too much for me :P I want to apologize again if I came across as a bully in my previous statements. I really want Des Moines to be a model other city's look to for starting a community garden and to communicate with about community garden issues. I am ALL about increasing the gardens in Des Moines and outside of Des Moines, if possible.

How would a resident gain access to information regarding the 2,000 empty lots?

I have wondered how many Community Gardens the City's resources could support.

Thank you.

Hi, Drew

I've moved up to a full-sized plot- E6. I've already got it tilled, raked into raised beds, and planted with lettuce, carrots, beets, peas, and beans. I noticed last night the water tank is back (same spot) but empty. Maybe it will be filled today. On Sunday I pulled up all the old cornstalks. Planting beans this year in their place would help restore the depleted nitrogen. I'm in agreement with your ideas for areas A, B, and C in your discussion. Sounds all good to me! Who's gonna bake us some rhubarb pies? I'd be willing to plant it first! (I know nothing about baking)

Hi Drew! :) I was wondering what plants you guys have planted in your Rain Garden? Are there any plants that you would like to plant in the Rain Garden that you guys do not currently have?

I am such a nincompoop. I signed up for this Ning account with two different usernames! :S I think I created an account specifically to play with creating a Ning site and then forgot I was logged into that account and came back over here ...

I don't see anywhere on the profiles that allow a user to enter personal information? Should we just use our Comment Wall and post information about our self there?

Yeap, I'll be there family in tow. :)
