I worked for a landscaping business for 3 years, and know a little bit about projects like the one being discussed here. The best time for such an endeavor would be in the fall, when the ground has dried out, otherwise you're going to get a…

On Monday, the 11th, I met a man out in West Des Moines who worked for the Rowat stone company just a block north of our garden. He told me that John Rowat came from Italy back in the late 1880's to build Iowa's capitol building. He said…

Craig Dean Anderson replied to Stacia Zink's discussion 'Untouched Plots'
It's too bad the weeds growing on untouched plots won't wait until after June 1st to start dropping their seeds (which blow onto other plots).

Just wanted to bring your attention to this discussion. Talk to you soon.

Did you ever talk with Christine or Grant about keeping your plot?

Hi, Craig. I'm a first time gardener who was at the garden Sunday night getting my plot. You mentioned to our group that you'd till our plot for us if we got it ready. I've cleaned mine off, and spread some compost on it. If you have time to till it, that would be great! It's in the south row of plots right by the fence, the second one in from the shed. It's surrounded by bricks. Thanks again!

That would be great! Our daughter is coming home from school for the weekend, and if we have the plot ready, she can help us get a few things planted.

We drove by the garden after the I-Cubs game last night, and there was our plot all tilled and ready to go! Thanks a million!

Hi Craig,

Spent some time this afternoon digging out all the quackgrass in my plot and much of the creeping charlie...Christine staked it out with some sticks, but the alleyways still need a lot of work. (It is the 3rd or 4th plot in from the corner fence on the south side.)
I think it is probably ready to be tilled, although the soil level is somewhat uneven--will that be a problem? It is better to till first then work in compost, or throw the compost on top and till it all up at once? I am hoping to put some early season crops in soon.
Thanks!
Susan Koehler.

Craig, I will have some time to garden late this afternoon (sunday) so will rake and spread some compost., so plot will be ready for you. Will also work on more of the weeds in the alleyways. Thanks,
Susan.

Hi Craig, even though it is has been wet and rainy (good for the garden, not-so-good for gardeners), I will leave you a well-wrapped package of homemade granola as a little THANKS! for tilling my plot and all the other kind things you do for the garden. I will leave it in the north part of the shed for you later today. Thanks again, I appreciate your help.
