I grow hardneck varieties every year. I highly recommend it. It grows easily, has very few pests and reliably produces. I plant in the fall when soil temps reach 40 degrees. I cover them with a couple inches of straw or leaves to reduce damage from…

Garlic has been ordered! We found a place in Illinois that charged a bit less and ordered three varieties that should grow well in Iowa. I should have it mid-October and we can arrange distribution and payment details then. Until then, happy…

Garlic!

Planning on gardening in the same plot next year? Interested in using your plot over winter? I'm planning on ordering garlic to plant in the fall, which will be ready to harvest in late spring/early summer. There is a great farm which has package deals with a different garlic varieties. See http://www.filareefarm.com/Let me know if you would be interested in splitting a package. The more the merrier so we can get as many different types as possible.See More

I can also see why people might be confused and think that "community" means "communal." Perhaps we should pursue making signs that explains that each garden plot is cared for by an individual person, provides information about…

Hi Amy, I would like to see a copy of the soil test. Also, you can upload files when you either start or are apart of a discussion. So if you go back to the plot holder's group, just start a new discussion and upload the file through that.

Also, whenever you have some free time, you should check out and join the "Master Gardener's Corner" group. This group will hopefully become a place where people can come to share their knowledge about gardening with everyone else.

Actual, instead of putting the soil test in the plot holders group you should put it in the master gardener corner group. The people who would be most interested in this information are those who are wanting to learn more about gardening.

Do you know of the Native American herb, mullein? Farmers call it velvet leaf. It might be fun in the children's garden. It has medicinal properties. I've used it to clear up congested lungs. It works great! I could get you some to plant if you'd like.
