Downtown Community Garden - Des Moines Iowa

Growing Together @ the corner of E 6th and Scott Street.

In early May Allen Street will be ripped up and I hear that the contractor is willing to offer us a whole lot of bricks from the old road. The Landscape Architects at RDG, who are working on the new MLK connector that will replace Allen Street, are in contact with the contractors and will keep us updated on the progress.

Because these bricks have been paved over, they may not be in the best condition in terms of having bits of asphalt attached to one side or another. However, they will be free to us since the contractor would have to haul them away to a landfill otherwise and is more then happy to not have to do that. Plus, we can then say that the bricks in Allen Park came from Allen Street.
