weeds and tomatoes

Hello my fellow gardners. I wanted to let everyone know a few things that are going on at the garden at this time of the summer, July 12th.

Within the next two weeks most of you that have tomatoe plants will have a huge crop of ripe tomatoes. Last year there were so many that some ended up rotting on the vine or on the ground.. If you have to many like I did last year you can give them to the connections cafe on 7th and Grand ave. downtown or any food pantry as well. If you have lettuce left like I have and it has bolted and gone to seed you can cut it off at the bottom about two inched from the ground and it will grow more leaves again.

The weed situation has gone crazy. We have such great soil that the weeds love it. One good thing about our putting mulch around our plotts is that the weeds are easier to pull out of the much as apposed to pulling them out of the soil

Next sunday is the shakespeare festival at the Locust street bridge in downtown Des Moines. I will be there with my guys from work If any one shows up to say hi, I will give you a glass of orange flavored honey wine. Hope to see you at the free Shakespeare festival. Pete.
