I tried to divide the seeds up into small amounts so that the highest possible number of gardeners would have a chance to grow a variety that they wanted to. I had also hoped that people would try to save seed. Something SSE ask from people who receive Herman's Garden seeds, kind of like a pass it on idea. Some of the SSE and some of the Flowers from both companies did not have many seeds in the packet to begin with. Tomatoes are generally divided in 25 seeds except the Purple Russian which has 10 seeds.

"We ask participants to continue giving, to do a good deed in Herman’s name, perhaps by teaching children to grow healthy gardens, to save seeds for new gardens next year, or by delivering produce to a local food pantry. Also, we ask that all tenders of Herman’s Gardens send us stories or photographs so we can show how you have passed on his gift to others. We know that our seed donations and the garden’s food, health and community that grow would make Herman very happy."

They also do suggest on the Herman's page: "... planting at more than the suggested sowing rate to make up for possible lower germination rates." This is most likely possible because of varying storage and handling. But unless you think you store your seeds perfectly or you throw your seed out and buy new every year, there is no reason to not try this donated seed. Also, seeds (even if stored well) have a "shelf life." Alliums & Spinach come to mind as seeds that are said to not last past a year. I stored some Spinach seed in the freezer, it thawed, and traveled from Florida to Iowa with me and gave nice, delicious plants last year. I also have some Pansy seeds that are said to be difficult to germinate but that is the seed, nothing to do with the handling, etc. It isn't that these varieties are necessarily unpopular, many times it is just that people do not know about the plant or there hasn't been enough hyped good things for people to purchase. So, I suppose, yes they maybe unpopular.

Please take these seeds off my hands, if you want them. They are for us. If you did attend the seed swap and only took one packet of something and would like more go ahead. If I divided them into amounts you are not comfortable with request more packets or all the packets of something.

After a week I plan on sending the leftovers to a non-profit I support Wintersown.org. Check them out. If you send an SASE they will send you free seeds.

Thank you for your time.

You're such a sweetheart! You're welcome. It's kind of fun. At first I counted the seed then I started dividing by sight. I really hope to be able to do this again! Thank you so much for providing the space for the Seed Swap. I think the idea of the Foundry is excellent and, for me, unusual. I have only seen Foundries as artist spaces. Your Mom made some excellent choices I think :)

Hey Donna, that sounds perfect. Thanks again for doing this.

Alex, I just pulled out the seeds and here are the counts (seed totals), doubled the packet sizes for smaller amounts:

Black Eyed Susan - 50
Calendula Mix - 50
Historic Pansies Mix - 36 ( all out of these now, small seeds )
Indian Prince - 58
Love Lies Bleeding - 100
Nigra Hollyhock - 50
Prickly Caterpillar - 20
Red Marietta Marigold - 60
Snap Dragon Mixture
Zulu Prince - 60
Sunrise Serenade - 20 (all out of these)
Sensitive Plant -50

I think there is no more Snapdragon mix, but I added a pack of the taller Botanical Interests Snapdragon Mix. Have no idea how many seeds there are in there, several they are small. Maybe about 100.

Donna-
I know I am getting to this discussion a little late. Are the seeds still available? Or have you already passed them on?
