Market Day in downtown DSM - Arts. Crafts. Not arts and crafts.

Howdy all! I meant to do this at the beginning of the summer, but here I am now. I wanted to let everyone know about the event I run here in Des Moines - I hope it's not too spammy! There are just a lot of folks at the garden who are into buying local and buying handmade goods, so it seems like a good fit. Plus, it's only a few blocks from the garden, so it might be a nice pit stop to or from a Saturday morning gardening run.

The last Saturday of every month, May - October, we run Market Day at 300 SW 5th Street (SW 5th and MLK, just across the street from the Science Center). It's an indie arts market with 40 local and regional vendors who bring everything from screenprinted posters to handmade baby clothes to silversmithed jewelery to handsewn leather wallets to gourmet cupcakes. Most of our vendors are from central Iowa, but we have some every month from Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, and Wisconsin.

Anyway, it's from 9a-2p, and the next one is July 31. Again, last Saturday of every month. We also have a special Black Friday event the day after Thanksgiving.

Our goal with Market Day is to have a regular event where people can be exposed to shopping locally and patroning the incredible artists and curators we have here. The goods are off the beaten path - more hip, more edgy than traditional craft shows. I hope some of you can make it - it's free to attend and I think you'd have fun.

More information is on our Facebook page or this month's Facebook event or at http://www.marketdayiowa.com
