Downtown Community Garden - Des Moines Iowa

Growing Together @ the corner of E 6th and Scott Street.

Don't forget Arbor Day is also just around the corner! The Arbor Day Foundation is giving away 10 trees, a tree care book, a year subscription to their mag, and a flowering shrub just for $10.00!! Especially in Iowa trees are very much needed to help control erosion and well, let's face it, to make the place look less flat! Haha!

Anyway, check it plus this $10.00 (or more) will get you discounts on buying other trees. And yes, they have fruit and nut trees! www.arborday.org

Thanks for reminding me about this! I just ordered a Membership for my Dad. Those Forsythias bushes they offer with a $25 or more order sure are pretty. :) Are we able to buy a membership and donate the trees to a group here in Des Moines? I don't think my yard needs any more shade.
I was wondering that myself. I rent and I don't know if the owner would like it too much if I starting digging around on their property.

Me too! :) The owners seem to be alright with our digging. I am planning on planting the Lilac tree because everyone seems to love Lilacs here and they already have peonies, I don't think the Lilac is too much of a stretch. I was thinking about donating the trees to the Franklin Library so they could replant them. My husband told me he did this one year and he took the trees and randomly planted them in some New Jersey Parks. :)
